Spider attack.

This would be almost unbelieveable if I hadn't seen it happen.
Some may not be the best shots but the unfolding drama was happening fast.
Yesterday I saw a new white crab spider,
this one much smaller than the first one I saw.
This afternoon I went back to check on it.

The spider had caught a butterfly

On the flower next to this, a fly landed
Then he moved to the spider's flower
Seemingly unaware of the danger the fly
began strolling around the flower.

This showes the actual size of the drama unfolding
The spider begins turing toward the fly
but not letting go of it's butterfly
The fly heads under the flower
The spider keeps turning, as the fly

The fly comes up and the spider attacks

You can see the spider has released the butterfly and has all of it's attention on the fly

The butterfly begins to get up-right

and now is trying to take flight
The spider quickly reaches out to secure the butterfly
without letting go of the fly

Now the butterfly and the fly are under control

The world around us may be small but life and death struggles have no size restrictions.
Finally a well deserved rest before the feast.
