Day of Caring started bright and early after a loud storm filled night that left almost all of Muskegon Hts out of power at 8am with a Pancake Breakfast provided by the Muskegon Lions Club at Marsh Field. We moved on from there some went to the McLaughlin Grows - Old Farm, where United Way volunteers joined Community encompass by moving a portion of their urban farm, to property adjacent to the Hackley campus of Mercy Health. |
Painting, repairs and improvements to walls, entryways, stairwells, and other areas: of the building.

Saturday at 8am Ride United gathered at Rotary Park for the Start of the Bike Ride either 25, 50 or 100 miles.
Riders started at Rotary Park near heritage landing. From there, the group all headed to the first stop, Pioneer Park in North Muskegon. The trip to Pioneer and back is a 25 mile ride.
If the riders choose the 50 mile they leave Pioneer Park and head to Duck Lake State Park on their wat to the Whitehall Marina. After Pioneer Park they will have an option to take the Block House Hill ByPass before Duck Lake. Block House Hill is a very challenging hill roughly 1 mile north from Memorial and Scenic Drive. The hill is steep even for experienced riders, and the detour will take off about 1 mile.
The 100 mile route takes the rider through a challenging, yet wonderfully scenic figure-8 north through Whitehall, over the rolling hills of Hart, and back to Muskegon. Each rider should know that there are a few very challenging hills north of Whitehall and should not be taken lightly. For the riders who have been training for this century ride, the hills will be challenging but by no means insurmountable. Riders had 5 rest stops at 3 locations: Pioneer Park: 12.5/85.5 miles,
Whitehall Marina: 25/75 miles and Silver Lake Stale Park: 50 Miles.
Here are my pictures from the starting line and from Pioneer Park.
