No, that is not rain those are the midge flies that make the tornado like swarms at the lagoons on the wastewater.
A special thank you to Nic Kalejs, DNR officer from the Muskegon State Area. Nic has been wonderful at letting me tag along with the duck banding this year, but much more than that he has been instrumental in his promotion and support of Muskegon County Wastewater as a managed waterfowl unit.
With Nic's help last year we were able to grant special access that allowed handicap, elderly and those with special needs the ability to drive up the sprinkler roads to access the hunting fields directly without a lot of walking. With his help this year we were able to get approval to allow free access to Veterans for hunting at the Wastewater.
Nic has opened up the State Game Area to the sporting groups to promote our hunting opportunities, and hunting safety to our youth and provided great information on wildlife identification, habitat and conservation and game laws and ethical harvesting of our renewable wildlife resources.
Nic has spent a lot of his free time at our many local sporting group events and meetings keeping us informed on game law changes, and wildlife updates.
The future of our hunting heritage rest in the hands of our youth. With Conservation Officers like Nic on the job, I know that we will be passing on that heritage to a well educated, enthusiastic, safe and respectful generation.
